Since both of these options make use of the QR code generator by MindFire, we will address them together.
Before you get started, you should first check if you have access to the QR code module. If you have been a MindFire customer prior to 2021 and have been using the Workflow Designer (aka Studio) only, it is likely that you do not have access to the QR code module. If that is the case, please contact our support team to get the QR code generation module turned on for your account. Once it is turned on for your parent account, all your sub-accounts (current and future) will have this feature turned on.
At this point, you should either upload a list to the system through the CRM module or create a SmartList, in case you have data previously uploaded through the Work Flow Designer. Here is an ARTICLE that provides details about uploading contacts. Here is another ARTICLE that describes how to create your own Smart List.
Once you have your list, please go into the QR Code module by clicking on Asset Manager | Call to Action options.
This opens up the Calls to Action section of the system where you can either create a new QR code by clicking on the “Create QR Code” button, or access a previously saved QR code by clicking on the name of the saved QR code.
Let us click on the “Create a New QR Code” button to start creating a new QR Code. This will open up a window that will allow you to configure and create a new QR Code. A screenshot of the QR code creation module is shown below.
Let us start by providing a name for the QR code. Please click on the red colored text “Give your QR code a name” to start typing the name. To save the name, please click on the orange check box next to the name. You can optionally type in a description and click on the save button any time to save your work.
The next step will be to select a list and select a QR code option. Let us use the QR code option Personalized URL for now.
By default the system pre-populates the PURL with https://www.mydomain.com/##purl## However, the user can type in additional modifications to this base URL. For example, the PURL can be moved to before the domain, and a virtual folder may be added at the end of the domain.
Some examples are:
https://##purl##.mydomain.com/myFolder
https://##purl##.mydomain.com/##custom1##
Option 2 vs Option 3: If you do not need the system to generate the QR code images because you will be using the QR Code fonts to generate them, or any other reasons, please use the slider next to the GENERATE button that says “Create QR strings only…”
Any time during this process, you can save the QR code configuration by clicking on the SAVE button at the top right, and you can re-open the QR code to continue configuring it. Once you are done, you can click on the GENERATE button at the bottom left to SAVE the final configuration as well as generate the QR code. Once you click on the GENERATE button, the system will prompt you to provide an email address where the QR code and the exported file will be sent, once the process is complete. Then the system will prompt you with the following modal which will allow you to add the fields you need in your export file by dragging them from the left of the modal to the right.
The average QR code image generation speed is about 5,000 images per minute. This will give you an approximate idea of how long it will take to generate all the images, based on your file size. Once the QR code generation has been completed, the system will send you an email with a link to download the export file. If you are generating the images, the email will also contain links to one or more zipped files - each zip file containing a maximum of 5,000 QR code images. Each contact record will be appended with two additional fields - the first one will contain the name of the QR code image file corresponding to that contact record, and the second one will contain the “Complete URL” corresponding to the contact record that can be printed on the direct mail. Please note that the URL on the QR code may contain various URL parameters, but the Complete URL is for typing in from the Direct Mail and will not contain any URL parameters.
